Thank you so much, Kathi. I had a confluence of ideas and recent happenings that helped it finally come together for some storytelling serendipity.

Awesome column! Death of a Salesman takes me back to HS 1962. This was the all-school play. Willie was played by an overweight 16 yr old who was completely in character. The despair in his voice, the weary movement on stage, he nailed it all. Since then I have seen the play on the professional level and was disappointed. Interesting comparison to the American Dream that so many cannot achieve today.

I love that Iowa music scene is growing. Have fairly new option very close to me that has live music 1 or 2 nights a week and will continue thru the winter. Of course, summers here in Okoboji the options are endless. And I discovered that Arts on Grand in Spencer has live music occasionally, Chad Elliot had a solo show there several weeks ago and Carol Montag will be there shortly after the Okoboji Retreat.

I hate to think of all the great shows I missed at Byron’s over the years!

I’ve rambled enough, time to get some fresh sweet corn.

Thank you, Becky! I need to find a way to get to northwest Iowa more often. Wonderful community support for musicians in your neck of the woods. The music at OWSR is going to be lovely. See ya soon!

Appreciate all of that, John. Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts. This piece has been percolating for some time now as I work through continuing to share art and also make a living. I’m quite blessed to be on this journey.

Bless your heart… you completely missed the point. But you did get to talk about yourself a lot so… yay!

You’re most welcome to share your interpretation. After all, art is subjective. And, yes, I’m often the main character in my Substack so no doubt looking through a biased lens.
